UA Announces Donor Advised Fund

Ferguson Center at duskFor many generous friends and alumni of The University of Alabama, the newly formed Donor Advised Fund (DAF) may be the perfect tool for facilitating your charitable giving. Gifts to the Donor Advised Fund provide flexibility in managing your charitable giving for maximum efficiency.

We will work to improve the world around us by supporting a wide variety of charitable organizations such as education, arts groups, health and human services, community development, and civic affairs throughout Alabama and the nation.

By establishing your Donor Advised Fund, you will benefit The University of Alabama and may choose to benefit any other charitable causes you designate — your local church or synagogue, children's homes, or other public charities which are important to you.

What Is a Donor Advised Fund?

Originally created by local community foundations, Donor Advised Funds are accounts used to set aside funds exclusively for the purpose of making charitable gifts.

You transfer cash or other appropriate assets to a Donor Advised Fund, choose the name of your fund, and select family or friends who will serve along with you to recommend the charities that will receive gifts. The timing of these gifts is of your choosing.

Within established guidelines, DAFs make it possible for charitably minded alumni and friends to more efficiently manage nearly every aspect of their charitable gifts, while avoiding many of the costly details of establishing or maintaining a separate family foundation.

In addition, Donor Advised Funds are not encumbered by many of the regulations that can make private foundations costly and time consuming.
