The Donor Advised Fund

You receive an immediate tax deduction

Your contributions to a Donor Advised Fund are tax deductible in the year they are made, subject to certain limitations. Since the Donor Advised Fund at The University of Alabama is a public charity, these gifts receive the most favorable tax treatment available.

Type of Contribution Tax Deductibility
Cash Up to 50% of adjusted gross income
Long-term appreciated property Up to 30% of adjusted gross income

(Please consult with your professional tax advisor to determine the exact benefits to you, which may be affected by certain limitations in the tax code.)

The minimum initial contribution to The University of Alabama Donor Advised Fund is $25,000 — and you can make additional gifts of any size at any time. And, just as with your initial contribution, additional contributions are deductible in the year they are made. See page 6 in the "Handbook for Donor Advisors" for more specific information about tax treatment of your gifts.
